Two of my latest painting.  They are both works in progress.  I'm so excited about the flicker.  Taken from a photograph I recently took.  Also my wonderful cat, that's no longer with us.  I miss him so much.

Birds In Art

This is one of the latest pieces I've worked on.  I have decided that I'm going to put a bird in my paintings.  I'm so glad to be able to use their wonderful shapes. This is turning out to be a favorites so I will probably paint it on canvas, as this one is on board.

Patterns Used in Paintings

I'm having so much fun cutting out different patterns for my paintings.  I'm using these to figure out composition.  I have them on a big posterboard.  They all look so fun together. I'm painting water color paper the color I need and then cut out the shape to see how it all looks with the background.

I Finished A Quilt!

This is a lap size quilt I made for my neice Trina.  I love this pattern because it resembles circles and I love circles in art, quilts, etc. This quilt matches my neices' personality perfectly...spunky, bright, colorful, and full of life.

Strips of fabric ready for a really fun strip quilt I'm working on.  Boy, I have a lot of fabric and I think I could make many quilts with this pattern.  I just found an old box of fabric I forgot I had and now I have some more strips coming. The thing I like about this quilt pattern is you can blend all kinds of fabric together and it all looks good.

Here are some of the new paintings I'm working on.  It's been a fascinating time studying color too.

A few weeks ago I had a turning point in my art.  Yahoo!  I found myself struggling with landscape paintings.  I really do like painting landscapes, but it seems it's time to move in a new adventure. The first real art I did was way back in the 70's when I was a batik artist.  I even entered into the famous Mill Avenue Arts & Crafts fair in Tempe, AZ. Anyway, I have come to realize that I really love batik fabrics.  As a quilter, they are always being used and are very popular.  I spend many quiet moments looking through my quilt fabric catalogs and always get stuck on the batiks. So I decided to start some small painting with a batik/tie-dye look for the backgrounds.  Last summer I did some collages with this technique and it was a blast.  So I have returned to that idea and am so happy and excited with what I'm doing.  It's so liberating to do art that you really love instead of stuff you are forcing yourself to do and don't really enjoy it or the creativity is just not there. Here are a few pictures of how it's all turning out.

Paintings from the Studio

A project from color theory class.  Started out with a piece of fabric and had to paint in different layers using different color contrasts.  Only the bottom right section is the fabric.
Also a painting I did a few years ago of Rancho de las Golindrinas near Santa Fe.  It's a historic farm and actually old fort when people were traveling the Santa Fe Trail.
